The Director Retail Banking is critical to the success of Blue Ridge Bank. This position is responsible for the overall success of our Retail Banking areas and managing and retaining a team of professionals dedicated to delivering desired results set by Executive Management. This role is responsible for driving client acquisition consistent with the Bank’s strategy to achieve the desired quality of business growth. This position reports to the CEO.
Strategic Planning
- Develop and execute strategic plans for the Retail Banking lines of business, aligning with the overall goals and objectives of the Bank. This involves implementing best practice management techniques to identify market opportunities, setting business targets, and implementing strategies to drive growth and profitability.
- Participate in planning and budgeting and maintains awareness of economic factors affecting achieving established organizational goals.
- Work closely with the Commercial Banking Executive to identify opportunities and strategize to align business plans and ensure good collaboration between the lines of business.
Business Development
- Lead efforts to expand the banking customer base. This includes identifying and pursuing new client relationships, fostering existing client relationships, and maximizing cross-selling opportunities across different products and services. In partnership with the Director of Marketing, develop marketing plans that promote the bank’s commercial line of business product offerings and campaigns consistent with the bank’s strategic plan.
Team Management
- Provide strong leadership to the commercial banking teams.
- Foster a high-performance culture, set performance targets, and provide coaching and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
- Lead, guide, and partner with market presidents to continue to enhance and deepen existing commercial relationships and define strategies for bringing on additional relationships while maintaining balance with the credit and risk appetite of the bank with loan growth goals as set by the board.
Financial Performance
- Monitor and analyze financial performance metrics, such as product and service, profitability, revenue, loan portfolio quality, and expense management.
- Take appropriate actions to optimize financial results and achieve budgetary objectives.
- Ensure individual office profitability and strategically aligns cross-functional activities, products, services, and opportunities.
Relationship Management
- Work harmoniously and cohesively within teams and with other counterparties.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry associations, and internal stakeholders.
- Represent the bank in industry forums, networking events, and client meetings.
- Increase collaboration with teams and promote cross-referral.
Product Development
- Collaborate with product development teams to enhance retail banking products and services or introduce new ones based on market demand and customer needs.
- Stay updated on industry trends and the competitive landscape to identify opportunities for innovation.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Maintain strong corporate governance practices, oversee internal controls, and participate in audits and examinations as required.
- Oversee and recommend upgrades and improvements to bank policies and procedures; see to it that any approved changes are implemented and are monitored for improvement.
