Position Overview
This position is accountable for performing inspection, sampling, testing and reporting for various construction materials originating in the district.
Essential Functions:
- Performs adequate inspections including sampling and testing of material produced in the district.
- Prepares all required documents and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintains a working relationship with producers’ and suppliers’ personnel.
- Uses field and laboratory equipment properly.
- Serves in capacities as directed by the Materials Engineer.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum; OR two years of engineering experience.
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QC/QA) classes as assigned.
- Extensive districtwide and occasional statewide travel with occasional overnight stays.
- Outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, production facilities, active construction sites and roads open to traffic.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to work overtime.
- Successful completion of a background screening.
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
