Position Overview
Pantheon Data is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Writer to join our dynamic communications team. The ideal candidate will have advanced experience in writing and editing diverse communication materials, conducting interviews, and supporting various media and public relations efforts.
The Staff Writer supports the Navy by writing feature and straight news writing products as well as editorial support to the Navy.
This project supports the Command mission of designing, building, delivering and sustaining the U.S. Navy's ships, submarines and systems through its strategic communications efforts. Representing more than 86,000 employees geographically dispersed across more than 40 locations worldwide, and is responsible for providing the strategic guidance, planning and execution support for all enterprise-wide internal and external communication, including marketing requirements and legislative engagement. In this capacity, the office provides direct support and strategic advisement to the Commander on all communication matters.
Responsibilities
- Author feature and straight news writing products and provides editorial support directed to targeted audiences including: Members of Congress, Department of Defense (DOD), industry stakeholders and the general public.
- Develop statements, reports, fact sheets, press releases, long-form articles, public affairs guidance, communications plans, briefing cards, as well as website or social media and brochures using plain language.
- Attend external events (e.g. think tanks, congressional hearings, symposium) and synopsize discussions to provide overall awareness of current discussions, trends and talking points, whitepapers, and briefs.
- Conduct media monitoring and analysis across communication channels.
- Consult with appropriate subject matter experts to ensure information is presented accurately.
- Experience in communication strategies and materials that support and promote engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
- Write and edit news copy (articles, social media posts, et cetera) according to Navy and Associated Press Stylebook.
- Synthesize complex ideas and initiatives into easily understood communications for various audiences.
- Experience in managing small and large-scale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan.
- Manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- Work effectively with NAVSEA's senior leaders in a high-profile and demanding office.
