Senior Security Lead

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Lead Security Associate is a key member of The Midnight Mission’s frontline leadership, responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors through effective oversight of security operations. This role is distinguished by its emphasis on trauma-informed supervision, conflict de-escalation, and active mentorship of the Security Associate team. Operating under the guidance of Security Management, the Senior Lead plays a pivotal role in promoting a culture of safety, dignity, and accountability across the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to Security Associates across shifts, modeling professionalism and trauma-informed practices.
• Implement and monitor adherence to safety policies, access control procedures, and conflict de-escalation protocols.
• Ensure all breaks, lunches, and rotations are observed according to TMM standards and labor laws.
• Assign security post duties and make real-time adjustments to maintain optimal coverage and a calm environment.
• Coach and counsel staff in real-time to ensure compliance with expectations, offering redirection, support, and professional development.
• Serve as a first point of contact during crises, mediating conflicts among guests or staff with skill and discretion.
• Conduct regular patrols of the entire facility, including dormitories, restrooms, perimeters, stairwells, and common areas.
• Monitor guest interactions, document incidents thoroughly, and report suspicious or escalating behavior to Security Supervisor.
• Maintain a clear and accurate property log; oversee the collection and securing of personal belongings.
• Facilitate guest check-in/out, badge issuance, and discourage unauthorized loitering near entrances.
• Collaborate with Case Management and Program staff to ensure a wraparound, service-aligned approach to guest care.
• Lead by example by demonstrating a consistent presence, professionalism, and ability to remain composed during high-stress moments.
• Attend regular supervision and participate in leadership development or cross-training as directed.

Work Environment

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. Attendant must know when to use appropriate personal protective equipment when dealing with soiled or infected clothing.
