Team Lead, Robot Testing and System Identification
1XAbout the role
Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.
We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a Team Lead, Robot Testing and System Identification. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring our NEO systems and sub-systems are rigorously tested and ready for real-world applications. You will oversee the verification, validation, and optimization of our robotic systems, leading a team focused on quality assurance and seamless system integration. A good roboticist with a passion for debugging, you will be responsible for defining and executing testing protocols, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating across teams to refine our robotic designs. This role requires hands-on experience with robotic systems, problem-solving skills, and a drive to ensure high-performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of highly talented engineers in the testing and systems integration of humanoid robots.
- Develop, execute, and manage test plans and procedures, ensuring all systems meet reliability, performance, and safety requirements.
- Perform in-depth debugging and diagnostics to identify and resolve issues within robotic systems.
- Work closely with other R&D teams to integrate subsystems and achieve seamless system functionality.
- Oversee end-to-end testing processes, from initial system validation to final production testing.
- Author clear, detailed documentation on test plans, procedures, results, and improvements.
- Manage lab equipment and testing tools, ensuring the availability of resources for timely testing cycles.
Requirements
You must be a roboticist, ideally in the humanoids or quadruped space.
Bachelor’s or higher in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
- Hands-on experience in testing and debugging complex robotic systems.
- Proficiency with test equipment and tools commonly used in robotic testing (oscilloscopes, data loggers, simulation software).
- Experience in defining and executing both manual and automated test procedures.
- Familiarity with system integration principles and troubleshooting techniques for multi-component systems.
- Excellent organizational skills with experience managing a small team and delegating tasks effectively.
It will be nice if you had
- Humanoid robot experience
- Knowledge of industry-standard testing protocols and safety standards for robotics.
- Experience in systems integration of complex mechatronics or robotics systems.
- CAD and/or PCB design
- Understanding of environmental testing, such as vibration, thermal, and humidity testing.
