Job Description
Position Overview:
The Payroll Associate is an essential KIPP NYC People Operations team member. Serving as a support contact for all payroll inquiries, the Payroll Associate will assist in the accurate and timely payroll processing for the KIPP NYC organization. This position is ideal for someone who is committed to continuous learning and innovation and can balance multiple high-priority projects and tasks while collaborating with their team.
Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager on the KIPP NYC People Operations Team, the Payroll Specialist will be based out of the KIPP NYC Shared Services Team, located in the midtown Manhattan office, with the possibility of a hybrid schedule.
General duties and responsibilities, but not limited to:
Administration
Assist in managing payroll-related communications, including audit requests and employee inquiries via Zendesk, and reporting in a timely and professional manner with exceptional, forward-facing, friendly customer service
Support timekeeping policies and protocols, including electronic/manual timesheet calculation and review with approval, as well as follow-up with supervisors
Assist in resolving payroll errors
Support PTO and benefits tracking
Maintain all payroll-related records and documents
Proven work experience as a Payroll Administrator / Payroll Specialist
Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail
Payroll Administration
Assist in processing semi-monthly payrolls for salaried and hourly employees, including entering payroll changes and verifying the accuracy of all data before submission for all company entities, including garnishments and levies.
Support developing and maintaining controls and procedures to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including collecting all necessary data.
Support regular auditing of payroll procedures and preparing submissions for third-party audits.
Assist in coordinating with the Payroll Service Provider to support the implementation of requested changes and enhancements.
Support year-end payroll closing procedures
Knowledge of federal, state, and local government regulations and reporting requirements that affect payroll processing
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, accounting or related field highly preferred
2+ years’ of payroll experience required, preferably processing multiple companies simultaneously with an understanding of Accounting Fundamentals and Payroll best practices
Experience with UKG, UltiPro, or Kronos preferred, with robust reporting skills
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and intermediate Excel skills are required
Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Demonstrated passion for and a commitment to the KIPP mission for high-quality public education and social justice

Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $60,000 to $69,000 per year. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band. Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range, however they are ultimately determined by scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
