About the role

MAJOR FUNCTION:
The HIM Documentation Specialist is responsible for retrieving all paper medical records from various locations; prepping, scanning, indexing, and quality checking medical records; and for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of all patients' medical records. The HIM Documentation Specialist applies these skills to all types of patient records, including but not limited to: Inpatient, Outpatient, and Emergency Room records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years medical record experience required.
  • Minimum one-year clerical experience required. 
  • Experience in a Health Information Management department preferred.
  • Experience in Cerner PowerChart and/or Cerner Kofax preferred.
  • Experience with desktop document scanner preferred.

Certification/ Licensure: 

  • N/A

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Detail oriented. 
  • Proficient computer skills. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
