SEASONAL BUILDING & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST - PARKS

The hourly rate for this position is $ 25.65.
Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for two (2) Seasonal Building & Grounds Specialists to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Parks & Trails team. The successful candidate will perform landscaping maintenance in county parks, trails, medians and roundabouts, as well as janitorial duties in park restrooms.
***This temporary/seasonal position generally works 40 hours per week, weekend work is required and is anticipated to last six (6) months from the hire date.***
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Constructs, alters, maintains, and repairs a variety of structures and landscaping. Depending upon area of assignments, duties may include, but are not limited to, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, irrigation systems, pruning, planting, culverts, lawns, fences, trails, playground equipment, roofs, and/or bridges.
- When assigned, operates a variety of equipment, which might include: hand tools, power tools, light equipment, tractor, backhoe, dump truck, snow plow, shoulder mower, and other equipment to construct, remodel, or repair of building, landscape and in-ground irrigation systems. Performs basic mechanical repairs and maintenance on hand tools, light power equipment, and/or vehicles.
- Participates in planting trees, shrubs and flowers, and maintains landscaped areas including mowing, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing and weed control. When assigned, applies pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical exertion required for lifting, which may be in excess of 50 lbs. Requires strenuous outdoor work, which includes exposure to all weather conditions, dust, vegetation, insects, construction equipment and traffic.
