Job Summary:
Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Operations & Products (RIOP) Surface Rock Drill Senior Engineering Project Team Lead performs as a machine lead in the surface rock drill engineering team. You will be the primary technical owner for the drill(s) assigned at the machine (L6) level and be the primary point of contact for those drills in the engineering team. This is a high-visibility position and will enable you to interact with many areas of the organization.
What You Will Do:
- Develop Project Scope to address business challenges and opportunities
- Lead a cross functional team to deliver technical content of NPI programs
- Overseeing project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems
- Direct project staffing; motivating and developing project team and team members
- Interact with Commercial, and other process partners to establish product requirements
- Facilitating design decisions amongst the L4 system teams
- Provide Engineering support to Internal / External BIQ Processes
- Interact with dealers and customers during customer site, and factory visits
- Ensure that safety and regulations for the drills are in compliance
- Support the technical steward in the development of machine MGPPs
- Provide support to manufacturing as needed
- Provide field support when required
Education requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

- Leads cross-functional teams assembled for the purpose of product design and development.
- Proficient in Teamcenter.
- Proficient in multiple systems (hydraulic, electrical, etc) and familiar with machine or component design
Technical Excellence:
- Advises engineering teams on selecting, evaluating, and implementing the most effective technical solutions.
- Engages the right SMEs to quickly resolve complex technical issues and maintain project momentum.
- Mentors engineers to strengthen technical depth and improve solution quality across the team.
- Coaches teams in structured problem solving, root cause analysis, and solution design.
- Delivers sound, data driven solutions to moderately complex technical challenges.
- Holds self and others accountable for maintaining high technical standards and performance.
Project Management:
- Leads multiple high‑risk, high‑cost engineering projects involving diverse cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Coaches teams to maintain clear, consistent communication and alignment across all project partners.
- Tracks project health, monitors critical path activities, and escalates risks proactively.
- Consults on planning and execution strategies for high‑impact projects, including scope, resources, and risk mitigation.
- Develops and manages engineering project budgets, ensuring financial discipline and alignment with business goals.
Team Management
- Fosters a collaborative work environment across the organization.
- Serves as a leader in organization-wide initiatives that require cross-functional teams.
- Coaches team leaders on issues, problems, and solution methods.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems:
- Assesses operational and business impact of system or equipment failures to drive prioritization and response.
- Resolves complex, high‑impact technical issues across machines, systems, and integrated technologies.
- Analyzes performance trends and maintenance history to identify chronic issues and drive corrective action.
- Coaches engineers on diagnosing and resolving integration, communication, and configuration issues.
- Applies structured diagnostic methods to quickly isolate root causes and identify solutions.
- Uses advanced tools and techniques to troubleshoot uncommon or performance‑critical problems.
