POSITION SUMMARY:
The Swim Team Coach is responsible for implementing the swim team program, ensuring safe swimming conditions, and creating a positive, supportive environment that promotes the personal and athletic development of team members. The coach upholds YMCA values and league standards while fostering teamwork and community among swimmers and their families.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Up to 25 hours per week. Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Program Implementation: Plan and deliver swim team practices, meets, and related events in accordance with YMCA and league rules and guidelines.
2. Safety and Order: Monitor and maintain a safe environment during practices and swim meets, enforcing all pool and program rules.
3. Skill Development: Work with individuals and groups of swimmers to improve their swimming skills, techniques, and overall performance.
4. Data Management: Compile and maintain statistical data and records for program reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
5. Parent Communication: Build and maintain positive relationships with the Swim Team Parents Council, providing regular updates and attending meetings as needed.
6. Facility Maintenance: Follow department protocols to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces and ensure the organization and cleanliness of program areas.
7. Team Engagement: Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, scheduled practices, and swim meets. Maintain required certifications and participate in professional development opportunities.
8. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the program and organizational goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years old.
2. Certifications:
• Current American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification, or American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification.
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications (accepted providers include American Red Cross, HSI, and American Heart Association).
• YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification within 30 days of employment.
3. Skills and Experience:
• Competitive swimming experience.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
4. Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships with swimmers, parents, and staff while promoting a positive team atmosphere.
