About the role

Summary

Provides direct support to the schools in the development and implementation of curriculum/instructional initiatives related to improvements in K-12 Media Services

Essential Duties

  • Assists schools in administering school and centralized media services
  • Coordinates  the media services program with programs of all instructional areas
  • Supports administrators with instructional and administrative technology as it relates to the media services program and the local school and District level
  • Plans orientation, in-service, and staff development activities for media and educational technology instructors (METIs) and teachers
  • Works in collaboration with other departments to maximize teacher effectiveness as it relates to the use of the media services program to enhance student achievement
  • Assumes responsibility for information regarding copyright law and the development of District-wide policies related to copyright
  • Assists with the selection and acquisition of library materials
  • Coordinates district-wide implementation of Digital Citizenship training for all school staff and students
  • Coordinates the annual Fulton County Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
  • Identifies resources and ensures schools are informed of and utilizing these resources efficiently
  • Develops and manages the departmental budget for the district’s library program
  • Assists in construction planning for new media centers or renovations of existing media centers
  • Responds to requests for information regarding the media services program
  • Participates in the selection and activities of the District Level Media Committee
  • Advocates for the importance of school libraries and literacy education within the district
  • Serves as a liaison between the district and local, state, and national library organizations
  • Monitors and addresses concerns/requests to restrict access to materials in the media center
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Master's Degree in Library Science or School Media required

Certification/Licensure

S-5 Certification in School Media required

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of three years of experience as a Media Specialist required; Three years supervisory experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to assist in developing and implementing school media programs
  • Must be able to plan and lead in-service and staff development activities
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in library science and education
  • Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in library services
  • Extensive knowledge of Destiny Library Manager Circulation Software
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with administrators, staff, and community members
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
