Responsibilities

The Medical Office Assistant 2 (MOA2) provides basic medical office clerical support. Performs duties requiring moderate problem solving and critical thinking. Provides training and mentoring to other staff members. Accountabilities 1. Answers incoming calls. Assesses each caller's urgency and priority, and provides information, takes messages, or forwards to the appropriate party.2. Directs patient check in. Assesses patient’s requests and alerts or summons appropriate healthcare team member.3. Creates new medical record numbers, completes simple registration and insurance verification.4. Schedules and prioritizes appointments, obtains referrals and/or authorizations prior to scheduling.5. Receives appointment requests, obtains necessary authorizations and makes appointments. Contacts patients with appointment information by phone and by mailing, a computer generated letter.6. Processes provider’s orders upon disposition, obtaining necessary authorizations, making appointments and informing patients of pre-testing instructions.7. Receives referrals from other clinics, medical offices or outside facilities. Enters information as necessary into the computer and forwards it to the specialty or PCP clinic/medical office for approval.8. Sends out no show and appointment letters.9. Maintains work area in a neat and organized manner. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors and staff.10. Maintains an adequate inventory of office supplies. Orders and stocks supplies as necessary.11. Follows regulatory guidelines/standards.12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience and Education Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
  • 1 year of healthcare clerical/administrative support experience required
