Diagnostics and Genomics Group (DGG)’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will have a major impact on the organization and company’s transformation, significantly contributing to its growth strategy into emerging areas such as cell and gene therapies. The CMO will have accountability for all medical aspects of DGG’s initiatives including the global Medical and Clinical Affairs strategy. This leader will also serve as the senior medical advisor for DGG's currently marketed products and products in all stages of development. This role will provide strategic consultation and guidance on all decisions that have significant medical components and implications. The CMO will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders and will serve as an ambassador for Agilent at external events and conferences. The CMO will help build and cultivate Agilent's presence in healthcare and scientific communities, enhancing relationships with key thought leaders and external collaborators.
The CMO is a key member of DGG’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Agilent’s Management Committee, advising the business on the medical aspects of current company commercial activities, evolution of current products, product development, new opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, and broader corporate strategy.
This role can be based in Santa Clara, CA with geographic flexibility of existing facilities in Lexington, MA; Wilmington, DE; Austin, TX; and San Diego, CA.

Reports to President Diagnostics and Genomics Group
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Safety:
Leading DGG’s Medical Affairs and Clinical Affairs functions, the CMO will ensure DGG’s products meet the highest standard of patient safety, i.e. timely assessment of customer complaints of any patient safety concerns and that companion diagnostic clinical trials meet all FDA requirements.
The CMO will serve as the escalated level of customer support for medically related product questions and will be the voice of the patient, serving as patient advocate in the company.
In cooperation with the Sales & Marketing organizations, ensure that DGG's products are used in a safe, effective and ethical manner, consistent with the intent of the product labeling and regulatory and compliance requirements.
As the medical voice to the external community, represent Agilent at national, regional and international medical and scientific conferences and events, interacting with and influencing key opinion leaders and customers.
Product and Business Development:
Help craft DGG’s future in cancer and infectious disease diagnostics and the push into new areas of sciences (oligonucleotides/RNA-based therapeutics, cell and gene therapy, precision medicine) that are central to the future of medicine.
Collaborate with the DGG ELT to evaluate growth opportunities based on unmet clinical needs, emerging technologies, and the competitive landscape.
Contribute to DGG’s development pipeline and roadmap, working closely with the DGG President and the division teams in ideation of new offerings.
This leader will have a direct voice into the business unit teams (R&D and Marketing) in the early stages of product development to gather clinical input and ensure product design and execution in compliance with global regulatory, legislative, and medical/health requirements.
Advise the Sales & Marketing organizations in maximizing the opportunity for customer acceptance and market penetration of DGG products. In cooperation with the Sales & Marketing organizations, coordinate clinical tactics, publication plans, scientific and medical information strategy to maximize product claims while meeting regulatory requirements.
Provide all necessary medical and scientific advice, as required, to internal Agilent departments, customers, key opinion leaders and other relevant external stakeholders. Ensure that all promotional and marketing materials meet Agilent standards of scientific and technical accuracy and integrity, approving all medical/clinical content of Agilent's internal and external promotional materials.
Support any needed due diligence and prepare/present medically sound strategy and plans associated with business development opportunities.
Keep abreast of emerging models in the healthcare industry; identify and define new and innovative strategies to achieve business goals and objectives.
