A Day in the Life

In this role, you will function as the key partner with the entire Automation team to oversee and manage key deliverables including project scoping, technical feasibility, specification development, automation design reviews, FAT, validation of automated systems with strong project management of financial performance, project timelines, and resource loading. You will be responsible for planning and reporting overall project status to Operations Innovation (OI) leadership. This team member provides the critical Project Management expertise to enable crisp execution with the team by partnering with the key stake holders in project planning, execution, and monitoring, as well as other aspects of project management.
  • Develop and apply computer aided design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems

  • Prepare design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval.

  • May specify materials, equipment and supplies required for completion of projects and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services

  • Maintain and continuously improve the automation processes, guidelines, tools / templates, best practices, and overall implementation.  Identify areas for perfective changes to process and implement

  • Be a key participant in the financial analysis to rank automation projects including estimating costs for Automation equipment, expenses to debug, FAT and Validate into productions

  • Facilitate solutions to complex problems with the team, which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.  Drive change within the automation team and share those learning across other teams (and functions). 

  • Work with receiving sites to establish Manufacturing, Engineering, and Maintenance readiness for the capital automation project

  • Document and share lessons learned on each Capital Automation project

Must Haves

Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years of Engineering experience or advanced degree and 8+ years of experience

Nice to Have

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering

  • Experience in Automation Engineering within Medical Device

  • Design for Manufacturability with Automation experience

  • Ability to identify and implement automation projects from multiple suppliers and integrate into fully automated work cell

  •  Ability to maneuver in a fast-paced environment while leading multiple suppliers

  • Self-starter and highly motivated individual that is comfortable working with many different management teams / styles with an aligned goal of process automation

  • Keen knowledge of all aspects of a capital automation project and major milestones.

  • Trained/Certified in Lean and/or 6 Sigma and/or DRM

  • Well versed in project management tools including Microsoft Project, Excel and project milestone reporting

  • Comfort and Ability to present to Sr. Leadership on monthly basis

  • Significant experience with medium to high volume assembly and test equipment technologies, including validation protocols (IQ / CQ / OQ / PQ / MSA)

  • Strong understanding of Industrial Engineering tools including balance tables, process flow diagrams, line layouts, ergonomic workstation designs, etc.

  • Experience in trouble shooting and debugging of automation equipment prior to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

  • Exceptional Team Leadership skills

  • Ability to work across global business units

  • Ability to travel up to 30%
