About the Role
The primary functions of the National Account Manager position are to secure new and profitable business as well as maintaining current customer base through continued strong customer service. A National Account Manager is responsible for developing strategic partnerships and new business opportunities with Shippers/BCOs in the lower 48 states that have regular shipment volumes to Alaska. The ideal candidate is a problem solver, has a strong network of BCO decision makers, can identify high value prospects, and has a proven track record of developing strategies to convert prospects into profitable business relationships. This position plays a primary role in creating proposals, presentations, business plans, and other sales materials.
Position is not Supervisory in nature
What you’ll do:
- Develop new business by:
- Identifying and qualifying prospects
- Following up on leads
- Making cold calls
- Sending out introductory packets
- Face-to-face meetings and/or phone calls with potential customers
- Maintain current and previously established accounts which may include, but not limited to:
- Regular phone calls and/or face-to-face meetings
- Follow-up on issues/concerns
- Customized service
- Resolving issues/concerns
- Maintain CRM daily with calls notes and prospect notes.
- Process appropriate paperwork in an accurate and timely manner e.g., expense reports
- Communicate with Rates department for rate requests, bid proposals and updates
- Claims inspections
- Communicate with Accounting department on collections issues
- Assist coworkers and other departments as requested
- Networking
- Staying current with Tariff and pricing regulations
- Special projects as required
- Consistently follow all safety procedures

And these qualifications:
- High School diploma (or equivalent) required
- Higher education/vocational training in business or transportation preferred
- Five years of Transportation/Logistics sales experience required
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position
- Valid drivers license
- Clean driving record
- Current auto insurance
Extra credit if you have:
- Expertise in Alaska Market is preferred
- Established Sales Network preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent travel to meet with customers or secure new business required
- Ability to sit at a desk and/or in front of a computer for an extended period of time
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to independently move up to 70 pounds
- Ability to do repetitive motions which may include fingering, grasping, reaching, bending, and/or feeling
- Ability to use proper lifting techniques when needed
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment where exposure to the elements and exhaust fumes are likely
The annual range is posted for this position in Washington. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
