Position Overview
The Hospice House Aide provides compassionate care and support to patients and families in a home-like inpatient setting. This role combines personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, and general assistance to ensure comfort, safety, and dignity for those we serve.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal care as directed by nursing staff.
- Document care and observations accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Prepare and serve meals following food safety standards (ServSafe certification required).
- Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms, common areas, and kitchen; perform laundry and housekeeping tasks.
- Run errands, manage petty cash, and provide general support such as answering phones and greeting visitors.
- Participate in team meetings and ongoing training.
Schedule Requirements
- Must sign-up for a minimum one (1) 12-hour On-Call NIGHT shift per month/schedule period. On-Call NIGHT shifts are from 1900-0700.
- The full-time Hospice House Aide must be able to work a minimum of three (3) weekend shifts (Fri. and/or Sat. NOC; Sat. and/or Sunday DAYS) each month, as needed for scheduling.
- The half-time Hospice House Aide must be able to work a minimum of two (2) weekend shifts (Fri. and/or Sat. NOC; Sat. and/or Sunday DAYS) each month, as needed for scheduling.
- The per diem Hospice House Aide must be available to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month/schedule period. After-hours back-up On-Call shifts may be substituted for work shifts with supervisor approval.
Environmental Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Routinely performing procedures or other tasks that could involve exposure to blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials.
- Working with Hospice patients in the IEHH, the patient’s home, SNF, and RCFE settings. The conditions in homes and facilities vary with each patient.
- Providing own transportation to patients’ places of residence, when necessary.
- Successfully performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the position which requires:
- regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, driving a car, use of hands, talking, listening, and observing.
- regularly requires reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
- regularly requires pulling patients to the side of the bed on a draw sheet, to a sitting position from the supine, or forward and up out of bed or chair in preparation for performing a standing pivot transfer.
Qualifications
Required Education/Credentials:
- Current California Department of Public Health Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) license.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an acute-care setting.
- Experience in hospice or home health.
- CHPNA certification.
