JOB SUMMARY:

  The Nurse Manager of Behavioral Health is a Registered Nurse who functions as a patient care provider, supervisor, and clinical resource for staff. The Nurse Manager in collaboration with the Director of Behavioral Health to implement patient management and clinical activities. Coordinates clinical activities to ensure that the nursing process is operationalized utilizing standards of care and practice, as well as maintaining consistency with the Behavioral Health Department’s regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Develops, incorporates and maintains the standards of clinical practice as defined by the Nursing Division.
  • Provides direct supervision to nurses and subordinate staff, ensuring appropriate assessment and treatment of patient health. Serves as key problem-solving resource for staff on patient issues. Manages and utilizes personnel effectively to achieve proper staffing and optimum resource management. Conducts performance review meetings, regularly provides feedback and coaching and is responsible for the overall development and succession planning of the staff
  • Studies patient needs/trends and suggests solutions to ongoing patient care problems and treatments
  •  Develops budgets and operates within budgetary guidelines, justifying variances as needed
  • Participates in unit-based CQI activities and assists staff in identifying and monitoring the quality indicators that are most pertinent to patient care goals.
  • Actively participates in all collaborative group activities and appropriate committees, task forces, interdisciplinary forums that are concerned with patient care
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support patient care in crisis intervention
  • Promotes methods to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in the effective management of patient care.
  • Collaborates with other departments in relation to the services needed for the patient care unit.
  • Participates with Nurse Educator, provides orientation, in-service education and continuing education for staff.
  • Assists the Director of Behavioral Health in evaluating professional growth of each staff member annually in writing.
  • Identifies current needs for use of equipment and assists the Nursing Director of Behavioral Health to project future capital budget items.
  • Ensures Medical Center's mission statement by participating in the ongoing development and implementation of the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Division.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and at least 6 years of clinical behavioral health experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Current license to practice Nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • BLS certification required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage expense budget as allocated.

  • Ability to make formal presentations relative to clinical, operational, educational research and financial issues

  • Ability to problem problems and work collaboratively towards defined patient care outcomes.
