DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  The non-clinical work involves developing and coordinating Erie County Medical Center Corporation’s (ECMCC) Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Residency Programs (ACGME).  The incumbent will manage all aspects of the ECMCC Residency Programs to assure compliance with regulation and accreditation standards and will assist in the administration of the Medical-Dental Staff Practice Improvement process as well as the onboarding of educational visitors.  The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Medical-Dental Staff Services.   Supervision is exercised over administrative, professional and lower level clerical staff.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Serves as the primary point of contact for residents/fellows, faculty and other stakeholders in ECMCC's Residency Programs and educational visitors to the facility;

Assists in developing ECMCC’s Residency Programs in accordance with government and accreditation requirements;

Communicates ECMCC’s policies and procedures for the education and training of students, residents, and fellows, professional standards and administrative functions associated with the ACGME, educational programs of the Jacobs School of Medicine, New York State and The Joint Commission;

Facilitates onboarding of new residents, fellows and medical students, including learning modules as defined; Researches and updates physician handbook and learning modules as necessary;

Collaborates with Administrators, Medical-Dental Staff, Program Directors and Accreditation Standards committees;

Coordinates activities of the Residency Programs to ensure compliance with the Jacobs School of Medicine, the ACGME accreditation standards, federal, state and local regulatory agencies;

Demonstrates compliance with NYS Resident Work Hours Regulation audits and participates in Graduate Medical Education accreditation process;

Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives including triaging and escalation of occurrence reports;

Provides administrative support to the Director of Medical-Dental Staff Services; assists with meeting preparation, notifications, correspondence related to Medical/Dental Staff Practice Improvement Process, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE).

Maintains case reviews, electronic occurrence reports and referrals to the practice improvement process.

Maintains related records and prepares reports;

Attends meetings with the flexibility to attend evening meetings;

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Thorough knowledge of ACGME Rules and Regulations, and Joint Commission accreditation standards governing the administration of a graduate medical education program; good knowledge of medical terminology, types of diseases and surgical procedures; proficiency in Microsoft Office with intermediate computer skills relating to database management, reporting, correspondence; ability to research programs requirements as necessary; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to maintain confidentiality regarding highly sensitive information; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; tact; professional; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree* in Medical Staff Services, Business, Public or Hospital Administration or related field and two (2) year(s) of Medical Staff Services experience, which included managing the medical staff functions or management or coordination of Graduate Medical Education; or
  2. Possession of an Associate’s Degree* in Medical Staff Services or Office Management and four (4) years of Medical Staff Services experience and two (2) years of which involved managing the medical staff functions or management or coordination of Graduate Medical Education; or
  3. Completion of 60 semester credit hours* and five (5) years of Medical Staff Services experience, two (2) years of which involved managing the medical staff functions or coordination of Graduate Medical Education; or
  4. Graduation from a high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and nine (9) years of Medical Staff Services experience, two (2) years of which involved managing the medical staff functions or management or coordination of Graduate Medical Education; or
  5. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C) and (D).
