As a member of the Operations Learning organization, the Training Manager role will be a key member of a dynamic team responsible for leading the development, delivery and ongoing management of technical training for our production workforce and skills proficiency of our frontline leaders. They will be a strategic partner to operations leaders that build Pratt & Whitney’s most advanced propulsion systems, which power military and commercial customers around the globe. These include the component manufacturing and final assembly and test of the F135, F100, V2500, PW4000 and PW1100G (neo) engines. The Training Manager will engage business leaders to assess current and future training needs and institute training plans for new, existing, and future employees to ensure a world class workforce.

This position will lead New Hire Onboarding and Apprentice & School-to-Work programs and maximize our utilization of federal and state funding. This includes, but is not limited to, apprentice and school to work program development, execution, maximizing grant capture for training, application for and the managements of grants. The position also manages all aspects of the Employee Training Center.

The position will work closely with members of the Operations Learning team, leading, co-leading or contributing to special projects or administration that drive continuous improvement, transformation and smooth operation of the production training function. The position may be responsible for managing technical trainers or other support staff and will cross train to serve as back up support for peer training managers responsible for a manufacturing / assembly site. The position will support the management and administration of a digital training platform to drive efficient and effective skilling and qualification of manufacturing employees, while reducing training cycle time. This includes, but is not limited to, managing training growth, creating and fostering training partner relationships, establishing traditional and blended learning solutions, monitoring training KPIs, and defining procedural aspects related to technical training.

The position is in Middletown, CT and supports module center operations (primarily Connecticut Operations, with periodic support of sites in other US locations). 

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and maintain standardized New Hire curriculum for employees at Pratt and Whitney Connecticut plants for the Operations and Technical Training content.
  • Develop the CT Pipeline strategy and partner with CT training managers for execution. Conduct Assessments for technical skill gap assessment and train gaps.
  • Establish standard work and best practices that can be leveraged across the business for Apprentice Programs, New Hire Orientation, and pipeline partnerships.
  • Manage the Apprenticeship program in partnership with the Union. Understand the landscape for CT State funding for training programs and maximize P&W funding.
  • Apply for and manage grant funding. Partner with key stakeholders to develop, maintain and deploy training. Facilitate and deliver technical training through various delivery methods (in person, on-line, self-directed, etc.).
  • Support ongoing management and administration of production training skills qualification digital platform. Actively participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to meet Training Department objectives.
