POSITION SUMMARY
Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures and keeps all records as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
- High School graduate.
- Graduate from an approved school for Nuclear Medicine Technologists or equivalent experience which is accepted by the ARRT or CNMT for board eligibility.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to work with patients' families who are often under physical and/or emotional stress.
- Ability to work cooperatively with personnel in the department, other areas of the medical center and in doctors’ offices.
License/Certification/Registration:
- Registered with ARRT (N) or CNMT.
- Must meet all registry certification requirements necessary to ensure hospital reimbursement from Medicare and other insurance carriers.
- Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Imaging Services and Section Head of Nuclear Medicine.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs daily patient care activities.
- Greets each patient in a pleasant manner and provides excellent customer service to all they come in to contact with including patients, families and other staff members.
- Calibrates equipment daily within acceptable levels.
- Selects appropriate equipment for the procedure.
- Safely operates equipment during the procedure.
- Verifies dosages for injections within NRC/DEP regulations.
- Demonstrates venipuncture competency and injects dosages into patients.
- Positions patients for proper images and records those images.
- Disposes of radioactive waste in the proper method.
- Properly judges patient's physical condition.
- Documents all steps as required by Medical Center and NRC/DEP regulations.
- Performs daily surveys and area wipe tests.
- Maintains proper inventory of supplies for work area.
- Keeps work area clean and neat.
- Escorts patients through department and Medical Center.
- Performs scheduling and other clerical duties to maintain efficiency throughout the department.
- Assists the Medical Staff in conducting Treadmill and Pharmaceutical Exercise Testing.
- Orders unit doses with Radiopharmacy.
- Performs daily, weekly, and monthly QC as required.
- Determines best study and technique using ALARA guidelines and established protocols.
- Takes call as needed.
- Performs surveys on in-coming and out-going deliveries from radio-pharmacy.
- Evaluates request for correctness of examinations ordered - checks diagnosis, physician order, lab results and patient identification prior to exam. Obtains prior and current patient history; documents pertinent information in PACS and Meditech.
- Obtains adequate patient history for the examination.
- Complies with and performs Quality Assurance duties as assigned.
- Assists in explaining policies, procedures and clerical functions to the radiology students as directed.
