JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Agricultural Sciences Burghardt Legume-Rhizobia Symbiosis Lab is looking for an undergraduate technician to assist with routine lab and field activities. Our lab uses interdisciplinary techniques to study plant-microbe interactions, particularly those occurring in root nodules and the rhizosphere.

Our research focuses on host-symbiont selection and how host genetic changes and the soil environment influence partner selection. We are currently conducting NIFA-funded research utilizing a variety of legume species and a custom rhizobia collection. Business as usual includes cleaning glassware, greenhouse, and plant care, making culture media (solid and liquid), growing cultures, making fertilizer stocks, DNA extractions, PCR, and image analysis. This position would allow the technician to learn various basic and advanced laboratory skills in plant and microbiological sciences. This could lead to more independent research opportunities.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. The ASR is available for review
