College Intern - Project Management

Basic Function
Professional learning experience in Planning, Engineering, and Construction where an undergraduate or graduate student participant gains practical work experience as a Project Management Professional. Internships begin with orientation in June and conclude in early August. Position will work 30 hours per week. Specific duties vary depending on the assigned department and business need. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Coordinates with METRO agency-wide to integrate environmental considerations into their decision-making processes, preparing environmental documentation regarding proposed actions, maintaining ongoing programs to protect and restore environmental resources, fulfilling numerous environmental reporting requirements, etc.
- Assists in developing, analyzing, evaluating, and modifying environmental programs, policies, and procedures. Exercise judgment and perspective in applying knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices relating to environmental protection programs as they concern problems of organizing, planning, funding, and controlling environmental activities.
- Evaluates and recommends action on permits, projects, and plans that involve routine changes. Assist in conducting site inspections and gathering information on conditions and potential mitigation measures, and coordinate activities with other Federal, State, and local agencies.
- Supports METRO activities by providing technical assistance to staff and management matters including assessing project readiness for safety, ADA, environmental, and design requirements.
- Monitors developments in environmental policy to support teams that are performing operating, financial, and policy analyses to assess strategic options for the continued provisions of modal transportation services.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or a recent graduate (within 1 year).
Degree program relative to intern assignments, such Environmental Science or related degree.
Years & Experience Required
Currently enrolled in an accredited education institution and have successfully completed 24 credit hours.
GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Knowledge & Skills Required
Knowledge relative to intern assignments, such Environmental Science or related degree. Knowledge of PC’s and related software; MS Office.
