Kentro is seeking a highly experienced Senior VA Healthcare Strategist and Executive Advisor to support the Veterans Health Information Exchange (VHIE), Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) effort within the Veteran Health Administration (VHA). The ideal candidate brings over 20 years of experience supporting the VA, with deep expertise in health informatics, patient privacy, standards adherence, and health IT systems. This role requires a strategic thinker with a comprehensive understanding of VA healthcare operations, policies, and the political environment, as well as a strong understanding of the needs within VA leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic advisement and executive-level guidance on VA healthcare initiatives
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on health informatics, patient privacy, VA policy and interoperability of health IT systems.
- Support policy development and regulatory compliance efforts related to VA healthcare programs.
- Collaborate with VA leadership, policymakers, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment of the VHIE program with federal healthcare initiatives.
- Offer expert analysis on health IT modernization strategies to implement a national health information technology infrastructure and facilitate the electronic exchange of health information.
- Represent the organization in high-level discussions with government agencies, VHA stakeholders, EHRM and other healthcare industry collaborators.
- Collaborate with VHA leaders at all levels to ensure that current and future needs are accurately captured and represented in various forums and forms of documentation.
- Serve as an executive level liaison using expert knowledge and experience in management of VA healthcare to support executive level program operation initiatives to include VHA privacy, VHA policy and the application of legal agreements (e.g., BAAs, MOUs) in alignment with organizational policies.
- Provide advisory support on data governance, security, and privacy policies affecting VA healthcare operations.
- Guide teams on the development, integration, and optimization of electronic health records and related health IT solutions.
- Manage health informatics projects to ensure timely and successful implementation, meeting organizational goals related to health information technology (IT) interoperability and data usability.
- Conduct research and provide data-driven evaluations and analyses to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of health information exchange.
- Stay up to date with emerging trends and best practices in health informatics, data analytics, VA policy and health IT.
Location: This position will be performed remotely and will support Eastern Time working hours.
Requirements
- Certificate of Advanced Study in Health Informatics or 5 years’ direct experience in health information exchange.
- Extensive knowledge of Veterans Health Information Exchange (VHIE), EHR modernization, VA policy and health informatics.
- Proven expertise in patient privacy regulations (HIPAA, 38 U.S.C. 7332, etc.) and federal health IT policies or legislation.
- Exceptional strategic planning, advisory, and executive communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex healthcare policies and IT challenges into actionable strategies.
- Strong analytical, research, and evaluation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with health information systems, electronic health records (EHR), and data exchange standards such as HL7, FHIR, and CCD.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
