Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking an Apprentice Program Training Lead to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Apprentice Program Training Lead provides oversight and direction for newly hired nonexempt seniority unit apprentices. Ensures apprenticeship programs provide training required by the company and Department of Energy (DOE) to establish and ensure a fundamental knowledge base sufficient for the employee to perform his/her job function safely and proficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, development, and approval of DOE Order compliant training curriculum for facility operations apprentices. Influences training program outcomes for non-operations seniority units.
  • Provides cost-effective, performance-based training via classroom training, e-learning, hands-on and other methods found effective.
  • Acts in a lead capacity , providing day-to-day direction and expertise to assigned apprentices, and by contributing to the company’s training strategy.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of company goals and objectives and the integration of the Liquid Waste (LW) scope with the overall Site mission.
  • Ensures all assigned programs are consistent, cost effective and meet all DOE and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as primary company training liaison with technical colleges, state apprenticeship agencies and the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Responsible for routine reporting of LW Apprenticeship Program status to DOE-SR and NNSA
  • Develops or provides input to fundamentals training schedules pertaining to apprenticeship programs
  • Coordinates with Human Resources (HR) Talent Acquisition (TA) on managing new hire nonexempt seniority unit apprentice onboarding activities (e.g., badging, pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, etc.)
  • Actively involved in the sourcing and/or development of training curriculum.
  • Demonstrates active involvement in implementation of new training courses or curriculum and ensures current training is effective. Implements modifications to programs based on coursework and instructor evaluations.
  • Performs and documents informal assessments of technical college instructional staff to determine training effectiveness and provides results to college apprenticeship program administration.
  • Imparts the importance of the LW safety culture and professionalism to new hire non-exempt seniority unit employees by providing training on Conduct of Operations (ConOps), Human Performance Improvements (HPI), Behavior-Based Safety (BBS), etc. 
  • Ensures administrative functions such as records, information management, scheduling, etc., are up to date and handled appropriately.
  • Manages the day-to-day offsite and onsite classroom training activities of apprentices including scheduling instruction, tracking attendance, monitoring examination / evaluation results
  • Maintains oversight and cognizance of apprentice facility activities during onsite facility indoctrination periods.
  • Researches and/or benchmarks new ideas/concepts for the advancement of the apprenticeship program and overall Training organization.
  • Develops, creates and/or generates ad hoc and standard reports as requested.
  • Manages special projects or assignments as directed by the Apprenticeship, Administration and Emergency Management Programs Manager.
  • May act as a Subcontract Technical Representative.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, Associates degree or High School Diploma/GED and relevant training experience

Additional information:

  • This position falls under DOE Order 426.2A and as such must meet the conditions of the order.  This may require additional specific training and/or knowledge dependent on position’s duties and responsibilities.
  • Must have courses in education or training that focus on instructional analysis, design, development, delivery and testing, as well as evaluation of training programs, if not included in secondary education course material.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Training or Engineering.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal regulations and Department of Energy Orders.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
