The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) Hospital Liaison Team provides specialist mental health assessment and support for children and young people under 18 years of age who present to the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department with mental health concerns. Working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, we deliver comprehensive assessments, brief interventions, treatment recommendations, safety planning, and coordinated care to support young people and their families when they need it most.

The Role

As an Allied Health Professional, you will provide specialist mental health assessment, risk assessments, safety planning and brief interventions for children and young people up to 18 years of age who are experiencing complex mental health challenges and presenting to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Working within a recovery-oriented and family-centred framework, you will play a key role in supporting young people and their families during times of acute need.

In this role, you will also:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health, psychosocial, and risk assessments, and contribute to safety planning and treatment recommendations.
  • Provide evidence-based brief interventions and support tailored to the needs of children, young people, and their families.
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with colleagues across the hospital, and broader community sectors.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate coordinated care, referrals, and continuity of support.
  • Function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team, providing consultation, support, and professional guidance to colleagues and partner services as required.
  • Promote collaborative, strengths-based, and recovery-focused approaches to care that support positive outcomes for young people and their families.

You will need

  • Extensive experience and demonstrated specialist level knowledge of mental health and an understanding of mental health issues in relation to children, adolescents and their families.
  • Proven ability to provide a range of assessments and therapeutic interventions relevant for children, adolescents and families accessing services and the ability to acquire further expertise in this area.
  • Demonstrated advanced written and oral communication, liaison, interpersonal and counselling skills within a multidisciplinary team environment, including the ability to function confidently and negotiate recommendations for patient care across a wide range of stakeholder groups.

Details of appointment

Fixed term full time, shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 10 June 2027.

Salary

$117,272 to $126,182 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
