The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is hiring up to two Biogeochemistry Research Specialists to be part of the soil biogeochemistry program led by Professor Margenot in the Agroecosystem Sustainability Center (ASC) of the Institute for Sustainability, Energy & Environment (iSEE) at Illinois. This program supports foundational and applied research on agroecosystem functions, with an emphasis on nutrient cycling and management in US Midwest systems.
Job Summary
To lead and support lab-based data generation on soil biogeochemistry. Specific projects include soil phosphorus management, carbon sequestration, nitrogen cycling and balances, and nutrient leaching across experimental agroecosystem treatments in the North Central US.Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis of large datasets, including soil, plant and water datasets across multiple projects
- Write formal reports and support manuscript development for communication of results of analyses
- Train undergraduate and graduate student researchers in lab techniques
- Lead data organization and curation
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in soil science, agronomy, environmental sciences, engineering, or related field.
- At least 2 years' experience in research (including graduate training).
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in soil science, agronomy, environmental sciences, engineering, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with soil science, agriculture science, and/or environmental science theory and data.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $44,000 to $58,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
