About the role

Are you looking forward to kickstart your career in Model Risk Management? Then we have good news… we are hiring!

The team

We are ING’s global Model Validation department responsible for the validation of ING’s IRRBB, CSRBB and Liquidity Risk models, i.e. models used for Asset & Liability Management (ALM). Our scope includes behavioural, hedging, valuation, risk measurement, economic capital, liquidity and stress testing models.

We are an energetic, collaborative international team of around 50 qualified professionals of various backgrounds. We foster a work environment of trust, cooperation, open communications, diversity & inclusion. We work partially at the head office in Amsterdam and partially remotely from home. Our team is part of ING’s global Model Risk Management department, responsible for measuring and managing model risks.

Roles and responsibilities

As a junior validator you assess whether a model is fit for the purposes it was designed for. You base your assessment on business context, academic theories, empirical evidence, regulations, best practices & independent analyses. This covers broadly the following topics:

  • Assessing fundamental assumptions underlying the design of the model.

  • Assessing the quality of input data, system implementation and model performance.

  • Assessing whether models are appropriate given the evolving business, economic and regulatory environment.

  • Writing high quality validation reports and discuss results with model developers, senior management, auditors and the European Central Bank.

Furthermore, as junior validator, you will:

  • Have the opportunity to participate in the development of innovative validation frameworks.

  • Further develop and innovate our coding library in Python.

  • Develop models to challenge existing ING models.

Learning and development

We work in an environment where development and continuous learning are important. We offer various internal and external learning programs, and provide various opportunities to advance your career in ING. For example, within Model Validation your next step could be the role of medior validator, but you may also take on cross-departmental opportunities. Your Chapter Lead (direct line manager) will support you to work on your personalized individual development plan.

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • You have a genuine interest to learn more about Asset & Liability Management, IRRBB, CSRBB and/or Liquidity Risk.

  • You have quantitative skills (e.g. econometrics, financial modelling, mathematics, statistics, time series analysis).

  • You have good English writing skills, you are accurate and maintain high quality standards.

  • You have a ‘take it on, make it happen’ mentality. You step up, take responsibility and take initiative to make things better.

  • You help others to be successful. You collaborate well with others. You listen, contribute and build trust within the team & with our stakeholders.

  • You are always a step ahead. You like to bring change, simplify & challenge old ways by equally asking ‘why’ and ‘why not’.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to work with an experienced team of professionals across borders, in a continuously improving environment.

  • Interesting development/career opportunities.

  • Flexibility to work from home and the office in Amsterdam to enhance wellbeing.

  • Time and support for your personal development.

  • Informal and positive atmosphere.

  • A competitive compensation in line with ING’s collective employment agreement.

Rewards and benefits

We want to make sure that it’s possible for you to strike the right balance between your career and your private life and reward our people with a generous benefits offer and employment conditions.
