What we want
The Medical Assistant II, under general supervision, works under the direction of the health care provider to deliver patient care, promote the safety and wellbeing of all patients. This role oversees the cleanliness of exam and treatment rooms and monitors patient care rooms and nurse’s stations. The Medical Assistant II coordinates communications with patients, informs patients of community resources, and drives the Mobile Clinic.

Other Requirements and Factors: May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Depending upon the nature of your position, you may be required to receive immunizations (excluding COVID and Flu).
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED
Three years of experience working in a clinical environment, hospital, home health setting, or other related areas
Required Licenses and Certifications:
State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet applications
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Able to provide and receive confidential information while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in public health or a Health-related discipline.
Department of State Health Services (DSHS) certification, certified Community Health Worker (CHW), or able to successfully complete the CHW certification within three months of employment
Experience working with individuals in rural or medically underserved communities
Experience in scheduling patient appointments
Experience in data collection and reporting
Knowledge of enrollment requirements for Texas Medicaid and CHIP or a willingness to learn
Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish
Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment
Responsibilities:
Clinic Responsibilities
Serves as a Driver for mobile clinics in a University vehicle.
Serves as the lead community-based provider and is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all patients.
Measures vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse respiration and obtains height and weight.
Interviews patients for updated medical history and documents information and other activities in the electronic medical records.
