Job Description:
The EBT Accountant I is responsible for handling of state issued EBT cards per federal regulations. This position also handles delivery and monitoring of state EBT cards issued over the counter in local offices throughout the State and handles all returned EBT cards from state and vendor issued EBT mailings and re-mails. This position is crucial to the effective delivery and handling of EBT cards and maintaining Federal requirements for EBT cards.
As an EBT Accountant I, you will:
• Processes daily mailing of state issued EBT cards, processes returned EBT cards and re-mails cards. Answers incoming calls and emails from clients and DHHS workers to resolve EBT problems. Maintains EBT card inventory to comply with Federal requirements. Works a flexible rotating Saturday shift to complete EBT mailing.
• Balances and/or reconciles data to verify that posting is complete and accurate.
• Reviews data on documents to ensure the information is accurate, complete, and meets the agency requirements; contacts document originator to request missing and/or corrected information.
• Applies established refund procedures to process returned payments in an accurate and timely manner.
• Sorts, files, and/or retrieves correspondence, records, reports, printouts, and other documents to ensure uniform storage and easy access to information.
• Operates office equipment including personal computer, calculator, and reproduction equipment to duplicate, scan, compile, tabulate, check, enter, attach, or post materials/information.
Hiring Wage: $17.561 per hour - non exempt
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Dress Attire: Business Casual
Location: NSOB - 301 Centennial Mall South, Lincoln, NE
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with verbal and written inbound customer service requests. Current or previous experience with DHHS eligibility systems or processes. Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: general accounting procedures; customer service techniques.
Skill in: written and verbal communication; word processing and spreadsheet software; gathering and compiling data into spreadsheets; detail orientated work.
Ability to: learn and apply agency policies/guidelines; enter information into computer systems; post information to worksheets and other documents; compute and compile figures using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages; compare information and recognize discrepancies; communicate with agency staff and the public to express facts and gather information; operate office equipment such as personal computers, scanners, photocopies, and desk calculators.
