Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Writer reports to the Director of Internal Communications in the UCLA Health Department of Communications. The Senior Writer is responsible for enterprising, writing, and editing stories, articles, web and intranet copy, and other content aimed at UCLA Health’s 37,000 internal workforce members. The writer will identify and produce stories and materials that highlight the people, programs, and initiatives that make UCLA Health one of the top academic medical centers in the country. 

 

The Senior Writer also will assist the Director of Internal Communications in creating communications materials for executive leaders in the medical center, including profiles, speeches, talking points, presentations, and briefing documents. The position will be required to support the Communications team leaders during crises and incidents management. 


Note: This position is full-time in the Communications Office. 


Salary Range: $86,400-$184,800/annually

We’re seeking a talent individual with:

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field
  • 7 or more years of professional writing experience, preferably in an academic or health care setting
  • Ability to create content materials, work independently, and meet multiple deadlines amid shifting circumstances in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write effectively for a variety of purposes, audiences, platforms, and media
  • Experience developing crisis communication materials and handling sensitive and proprietary information with discretion
  • Ability to work with stakeholders and collaborators at all levels and adjust approaches accordingly
  • Ability to work think and plan across channels and develop effective communication strategies

Preferred:

  • Experience working with design colleagues to convert text into presentations with visuals
  • Experience with content management systems and email platforms
