Description
This position is responsible for supporting the clinical phase of the University of Michigan-Flint Master's of Science in Physician Assistant (MSPA) program and to serve as principal faculty within the department. The Clinical Coordinator will serve in the day-to-day operation of the PA program and education of students, and will participate in the implementation and evaluation of the clinical curriculum. As a PA program principal faculty, they participate in teaching, service, and scholarship in accordance with the College of Health Sciences (CHS) guidelines. The position is a 12-month 50% effort faculty position as an Assistant/Associate Clinical- or Tenure-Track Professor and a 12-month 50% effort administrative position as Clinical Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Clinical Coordinator Duties
- Communicates with Associate Director of Clinical Education and the Clinical Team regarding clinical year matters
- Participates in clinical program team meetings and reports on progress of placements and any concerns/issues
- Updates/maintains preceptor database in the data management system, including verifying preceptor credentials
- Participates in clinical curriculum development, teaching, and assessment by reviewing and refining SCPE and 63X course series syllabi and assessments
- Serves as course coordinator and instructor in PPA 630, 631, and 632
- Assists with PPA 650 curricula development and course evaluation for students as needed
- Organizes and participates in End of Rotation Call Back Days
- Ensures student evaluation by clinical preceptors and student compliance with assessment requirements
- Reviews, analyzes, and reports on clinical preceptor evaluations, end of rotation examinations, and student standardized evaluations
- Ensures clinical site sufficiency and effectiveness through development, maintenance, and assessment of clinical rotation sites
- Coordinates clinical rotation sites and clinical year schedule
- Conducts site visits on assigned students and performs periodic clinical site audit visits
- Performs student support activities that include attendance, monitoring progress, and coordination with learning and assessment resources
- Assists Program Director and the Associate Director of Clinical Education to ensure program compliance with all ARC-PA standards for the clinical phase of the program
- Completes other duties in support of PA Department as assigned by PA Department Director
Program Faculty Duties
Participate in teaching, service, and scholarship in accordance with UM-Flint and CHS faculty guidelines. Participate in activities that contribute to the overall functioning of the PA program including developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program, and the following duties:
Teaching
- Provide course instruction according to expertise and needs of the PA Program
- Develop syllabi, lectures, and evaluation instruments
- Provide instruction, assessment, and remediation of students in assigned didactic courses while working closely and collaboratively with other faculty
- Participate in recruitment, admission, retention, and academic progress of students
- Serve as academic advisor to students
Scholarship
Maintains personal scholarship according to the College of Health Sciences scholarship requirements for clinical- or tenure-track faculty. Clinical-track faculty are required to have an active research agenda, establish their ability to conduct independent research, and work collaboratively with other faculty in scholarly endeavors.
Service
