Objective: Our client is seeking an Estimator to spearhead the evaluation and bidding process for extensive infrastructure projects, including highways, roads, and bridges. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record as the main estimator for projects valued over $50 million.
Core Responsibilities:
Evaluate the financial viability of projects, monitoring costs in relation to initial bids as projects progress.
Engage with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to develop estimates and address challenges.
Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction professionals to modify cost projections.
Oversee the entire estimation process, from initial take-offs to bid submission, including coordination with subcontractors.
Compile and update a comprehensive list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
Generate detailed estimates for vendor and subcontractor selection.
Create estimates to assist management in planning, organizing, and scheduling tasks.
Lead by example, imparting expertise and knowledge to team members.
Organize and juggle multiple projects while maintaining an orderly workspace.
Draft reports, business communications, and procedural manuals.
Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including management, clients, and the public.
Produce and submit thorough project estimates.
Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum of five years of experience in all facets of heavy highway construction estimation, including bridge, soil, and concrete work.
5-12 years of estimating experience on DOT, roads, highways, bridges, concrete paving, walls, and/or storm drainage.
At least two years of on-site experience, with a preference for backgrounds in project management or engineering.
A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred, with a minimum requirement of an associate degree in civil engineering technology.
In-depth understanding of TXDOT specifications and experience with alternative project delivery methods (Design Build, CMGC, CM@R).
Proficiency in Primavera P3 and P6, ranging from moderate to advanced.
Strong skills in MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with HCSS Heavy Bid software.
A valid driver’s license for occasional travel.
Competency in interpreting business literature, technical documents, and government regulations.
Proficient in mathematical calculations, including discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, with a solid grasp of basic algebra, geometry, and construction math.
Skilled in identifying issues, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
Ability to understand a wide range of technical instructions and manage both abstract and concrete variables.
Capable of performing administrative tasks that require moderate physical effort and dealing with varying outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to navigate minor obstacles at construction sites.
Adequate manual dexterity for handling items and operating with precision.
