This position leads the accounting team that supports Marriott’s HR relocation services department. Primary responsibilities include ensuring execution of timely and accurate accounting procedures, effective management of tax equalization processes, as well as the development of admin department and relocation plan budget and forecasting. In addition, this position will be responsible for collaborating with internal stakeholders across Finance (FBP), HR, Legal and iT to facilitate productive partnerships while also driving ongoing management and optimization of external vendor partnerships.
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
- Leads and directs the activities related to end-to-end Relocation Accounting in support of global relocation services provided to all Continents and the corporate locations. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and contractual agreements.
- Establishes and drives utilization of strong internal controls and procedures to drive adherence to Marriott’s accounting and reporting procedures.
- Responsible for leading the team in identification and implementation of process enhancement opportunities that drive efficiency, consistency, and accuracy. This includes identifying and exploring any technology enhancements to the accounting operation.
- Manages a team accountable for the execution of day-to-day relocation accounting, including:
- Management of all relocation expenses in support of program benefits, including oversight of the auditing, reconciling, and charging to the relocation travel account and van line invoices
- Calculation, and payment processing, of all required taxes on any taxable expenses pertaining to temporary living benefits
- Calculation and collection of all relocation paybacks
- Completion of BDR and suspense corrections
- Monthly reconciliations for all relocation accounts (to include relocation plan P&Ls)
- Resolution of stakeholder issues pertaining to relocation costs and accounting
- Auditing, recording, and processing of all relocation expense reports via Concur
- Manages accounting functions related to Marriott’s Home Purchase Program, including preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of all accounting records.
- Ensures timely and accurate utilization of the relocation tracking system, Move Track, for payments pertaining to the Home Purchase Program.
- Leads the monthly tax gross-up calculations and year-end true-up process for relocation tax gross ups; provides taxable benefits information to Marriott payroll monthly. Ensures an annual statement detailing the gross-up calculations is provided to each associate in January for previous year.
- Responsible for all relocation accounting reporting, including monitoring trends and identifying and surfacing issues to stakeholders, e.g., Average Move Cost report, Home Purchase Program report, quarterly reports, survey reports.
- Develops and manages department budget for the Marriott Relocation and monitors the relocation spend.
- Establishes strong working relationships with the relevant Finance Business Partner and other project/department management, internal and external owners, and customers.
- Supervises two or more accounting professionals, set departmental/project related goals and priorities; may require moderate supervision and coaching.
- Finance lead for Movetrack, the relocation system used to manage moves and track costs.
- Sets goals and expectations for direct reports and hold staff accountable for successful performance; coaches team by providing specific feedback to improve performance, and conducts annual performance appraisals.

Key Talents and Experience
- Excellent PC skills, proficient in Microsoft Office products
- PeopleSoft software experience preferred
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles required (GAAP)
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communications skills required
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and implement resolutions
- Strong analytical skills and effective problem-solving abilities; makes decisions using data; anticipates risks and consequences of current issues on future project outcomes

Education and Professional Certification
- Bachelor’s degree Accounting Required
- CPA a plus
- Minimum 7 years’
