Staff Accountant

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

This position fulfills accounting, finance and reporting responsibilities including continual process and system improvement for efficiencies and implementation of strong internal controls and teamwork in aspects/assistance of financial operations. Responsibilities include journal entries, analysis, implementation of accounting standards, regulatory reporting and compliance, account reconciliations, procedure documentation, regulatory filings, as well as assistance with financial statements, budgets, accounting software, journal entry support, year-end audits and any other ancillary financial responsibilities as needed. Responsibilities would also include working with software systems to optimize system efficiencies as needed. All responsibilities would be pursuant to the policies and procedures of Hospice of the Piedmont and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements and accepted standards of practice.

 

Essential Duties

• Prepare, enter and document all assigned journals entries. Ensure appropriate controls, procedures, and documentation is in place for entries and financial statements to be prepared and presented in audit-ready format.
• Ensure integrity of the general ledger by performing monthly account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, including timely reconciliations and correcting entries for all bank accounts. Maintain support for all subsidiary ledgers
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and closing process in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Assist in the preparation and support of the year end audit process.
• Assist with development of organizational and program budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
• Provide financial oversight, as may be needed or required, for completion of payroll by the Human Resources Department in accordance with company plans and ERISA requirements
• Assist with quarterly benchmarking.
• Develop management reporting and operational finance analytics including labor, expense management and budgetary variances. Highlight trends and other relevant observations for improvement.
• Support preparation of Form 990, annual audits, and other compliance filings, including the Sales Tax Refund reporting.

 

Requirements

• Associate’s degree (AAS) in accounting or finance with strong accounting knowledge. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control environments, with preference for non-for-profit and healthcare financials.
• Minimum of three years’ hands-on experience in accounting and/or finance
• Proficient with accounting software applications
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
• Valid NC driver’s license, reliable independent transportation, and current automobile liability insurance at limits required by the agency
