Organisational Context

Purpose of the Post

 

To support the Area of Director of Nursing in the overall management responsibilitiesand professional standards for the Mental Health Service.

Be responsible for assisting the Area Director of Nursing by taking an active role in theprofessional leadership, development and management of the nursing and allied carestaff in the service.

Be required to work with members of the Multi Disciplinary Team to implement thestrategies objectives for the Mental Health Services.

Take a lead role in developing systematic and structured frameworks in order to facilitateclinical practice development and innovation within the service.

Lead on behalf of the Area Director of Nursing on strategic projects that develop andimprove nursing services and contribute to the overall development of service and theachievement of any development objectives.

Lead and support the overall continued development of the Mental Health Servicesaccording to national plans and strategy.

Participate in meeting the HSE policy objectives for the Mental Health Services.Develop and manage the nursing quality assurance programmes.

Plan, manage and implement the statutory/ mandatory training requirements of staffunder their area of responsibility

Be concerned with the execution of local policy decisions and with the management andeffective utilisation of resources.

The role will not be limited by reference to this profile and should reflect establishedpractices in relation to the Director of Nursing Assistant, Mental Health Services. It wouldbe expected in the normal course of events that the role will evolve as professional andservice demands change. In particular, the profile will need to be adapted at local levelto meet specific requirements in relation to the management of specific functional responsibilities.

It is estimated thatup to one in five of us will experience some mental health problems in our lifetime and inorder to meet these needs, Mental Health Services are expanding and evolving.We are committed to providing progressive high standards of recovery-based nursing careto clients with a wide range of mental health issues which range from basic to complex,severe psychiatric care needs. Services include Adult, Older Adult, Psychiatry of Later Life,and ID with a Mental Health Diagnosis, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services(CAMHS).CAMHS provides assessment and treatment for young people up to 18 years and theirfamilies who are experiencing mental health difficulties such as depression, anxiety, eatingdisorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
