We have an immediate opening for a Process Controls Engineer working hybrid out of Texas City, TX. This position will be part of Air Products' Americas Operations Central Engineering - HyCO Process Controls Engineering group and will preferably be based in Texas City, TX but consideration will be given to other locations. Travel is mostly local within the Houston region, but infrequent travel may be required to other Air Products locations in North America; the incumbent should expect to travel ~ 5% of the time outside the region. We offer flexible hybrid remote/onsite work accommodations.

Process Control Engineers work closely with our operating facilities as the experts in DCS and PLC automation system design and support. They provide guidance on instrumentation and control devices to keep our plants operating safely and providing product to our customers. S/he will work on industrial process control systems in support of capital projects, best practices, plant production initiatives, and reliability improvement efforts. The individual will work closely with regional process controls engineers, plant process engineers, area managers, site supervisors and operating staff. 

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility for this role is to provide process control systems engineering support for our world-class production facility in Texas City that includes on-site steam methane reforming (SMR), air separation (ASU), steam turbine, utilities, and ammonia production assets. Over time, the individual can be expected to learn and contribute to multiple facilities located in the Houston area.
 

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Supports control system troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

  • Identifies, executes, and supports improvement projects related to DCS & SIS systems.

  • Responsible for the long-term planning and support of control systems with respect to programming, preventive maintenance, and migration.

  • Addresses instrumentation and automation system obsolescence.

  • Implements changes to the control logic, HMI, database, and prepares documentation of these changes. 

  • Aligns with local I&E technicians, providing support and leadership for instrument related troubleshooting. 

  • Contributes to the improvement and optimization of existing assets.

  • Drives improvements in plant reliability, cyber security, and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Meets organizational goals for safety.

Qualifications:

  • Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering.

OR

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Process Technology with 5+ years of experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering.

OR

  • Associate degree or equivalent military training with 10+ years of controls systems and/or instrumentation experience.

  • Valid Drivers' License and good driving record required.

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (e.g. temporary work visa or work permit).

Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC). Experience with Siemens PCS7 a plus.

  • Some knowledge of field instrumentation, including valves and transmitters.

  • Proficiency and experience with concepts related to level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement.

  • Fundamental understanding of computer networks.

  • General knowledge of cybersecurity implementation as relates to industrial control systems.

  • General knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems as applicable to Mechanical Integrity.

  • Be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal and communication skills. S/he must be capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.

  • Effective communicator able to present complex problems to a varied audience in a concise and accurate manner across the organization, including customers, vendors, management, and site personnel.
