Job Overview
The Division Director, Visual Merchandising, serves as the strategic partner to the Divisional VP and is responsible for driving customer experience, sales, and brand loyalty through the consistent execution of in-store visual and merchandising presentation. This role operates as the center of excellence for fashion, style, and trend presentations, influencing store teams to interpret and implement direction based on business opportunities, architecture, traffic flow, and a balance of art and science. The Division Director oversees visual execution, coaching, training, and providing feedback to store colleagues to implement and maintain Macy's brand standards and visual merchandising initiatives specific to each Family of Business, including Macy’s small format locations and Backstage.
What You Will Do
- Clearly communicate Visual Merchandising initiatives and Macy's strategic priorities to the Divisional VP and store teams, ensuring consistency in execution and presentation across all stores.
- Oversee and provide training on fashion presentations and styling to ensure that stores are both inspirational and experiential, establishing them as Fashion Destinations.
- Participate in Divisional and Regional Deep Dive Visits, serving as a key resource to the Divisional VP and Store Managers to identify visual and merchandising opportunities that can increase sales.
- Provide leadership and feedback to store teams on Visual Merchandising principles, including proper fixture placement and heights, enhanced presentation techniques, and the best use of architecture to elevate the store customer shopping experience.
- Train and ensure compliance with all safety, ADA, and social distancing practices and policies to provide a safe environment for customers and colleagues.
- Lead individual store and division-wide training sessions, both in person and virtually, ensuring that training is cascaded to Store People Leaders and Colleagues.
- Partner with the Senior Manager of Presentation Standards and Trainings on all communication tools and training methods to ensure consistency across all stores.
- Conduct ongoing Talent Analysis of direct reports, establishing career progression plans for key players and positions to match the best talent, resulting in the retention of top performers and a reduction in turnover.
- Provide feedback to Store Managers about OVM's strengths and opportunities related to visual merchandising to assist in talent analysis and ongoing career development.
- Execute seasonal and holiday prototypes to develop and communicate new standards, ensuring consistent execution across all stores.
- Train the store team on DWF and Map Central programs.
- Manage visual and travel expenses according to monthly plans.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
Skills You Will Need
Visual Merchandising Expertise: Visual merchandising or design-related experience, demonstrating proficiency in implementing standards and initiatives.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate visual merchandising initiatives and strategic priorities to diverse audiences, including the Divisional VP and store teams.
Retail Reporting and Strategy: Understanding of retail reporting (e.g., the 12, black box, SAPA) and strong reasoning ability for independent planning and execution of strategies.
Leadership and Influence: Strong leadership profile, excellent negotiation, and influence skills, coupled with the ability to build partnerships and direct teams.
Adaptability and Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
