About the role

Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure team is building services that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best-in-class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever-expanding set of foundational cloud-based services.

We’re looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. An engineer at any level can have significant technical and business impact.

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff you will lead the software design and development for major components of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure. You should be both a rock solid coder and a lead level engineer, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems, as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

  • You are comfortable working at all levels of the stack.

This position is expected to be onsite in Nashville 3 days/week. This is not a remote position. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals. Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
  • Building software solutions in an engineering environment using C, C++, Python, Java, Shell Scripting, and JavaScript. 
  • RDBMS such as MySQL, PostgreSQL or NoSQL databases
  • Object oriented design and object oriented programming. 
  • Agile or Scrum methodologies.
  • Microservices hosted in leading cloud environments, AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Containerized applications, Docker, Kubernetes or similar application.
  • Develop and troubleshoot large scalable distributed systems written in C and C++ on Linux
  • platforms.
  • Distributed systems design.
  • RESTful API design
  • Strong understanding of event streaming platforms like Apache Kafka
  • Strong grasp of Kubernetes
  • Experience in a start-up environment
  • Experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
  • Strong grasp of Unix-like operating systems

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week.
