Minimum Qualifications:  Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in a life or physical science (biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field) and two (2) years of professional experience or a Master’s Degree in one of the biological sciences and one (1) year of professional experience.  Will be required to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.

Description of Position:

 

The Wildlife Impact Management Section is seeking an energetic and motivated candidate to help address nonnative fish and wildlife in Florida as an OPS Nonnative Risk Assessment Specialist. Primary responsibility will be to complete biological profiles and risk screenings to assess the potential impacts of nonnative wildlife in Florida. The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing completed biological profiles and risk screens from other entities. This is an office-based position that focuses on determining the potential risks posed by nonnative species in Florida. This position will be able to work on nonnative species policies as part of a team.

 

Primary duties will include:

• Assists with identifying and assessing emerging issues related to nonnative species in Florida;
• Collects, prepares and analyzes recent biological data on nonnative species;
• Conducts reviews, compiles data and prepares risk screening documents;
• Develops standard operation procedures (SOPs) for systematic reviews and risk determination processes under the guidance of the supervisor and program coordinator;
• Collects, enters, organizes data, and summarizes data by preparing graphs, charts and other methods of presenting biological information from field and laboratory studies; 
• Provides technical assistance to the public through telephone and written communication;
• Serves on committees and teams as appropriate and attends meetings, workshops, and conferences;
• Responds to Early Detection Rapid Response reports of nonnative fish and wildlife, as needed;
• Assists the nonnative team in other  projects, as needed.   

 

This position will include extensive research and editing-related tasks including working independently and requires an ability to trouble-shoot and make sound decisions regarding documentation and communication.
