ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, other agencies, officials, and all members of the general public.
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
Works under the general supervision of the Fire Marshal.
Reviews and approves commercial construction plans for fire code compliance. Resolves compliance problems with building officials, contractors, and architects within the scope of authority.
Provides public education in fire prevention, including talks, demonstrations, and presentations before community groups, schools, and other organizations or institutions.
Inspects existing commercial structures, construction and remodel sites for compliance with fire codes. Resolves compliance problems with owners within scope of authority.
Will witness acceptance testing on special systems such as automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, fire alarms, and fixed fire- extinguishing systems.
Conducts annual inspections located within the City of Farmington.
Responds to complaints regarding fire code violations and fire hazards.
Maintains a variety of data and records regarding fire inspection, plan review, or prevention activities; prepares reports regarding fire inspection or prevention as required.
Conducts fireworks patrol, fireworks retail location inspections, and public fireworks display licensing inspections.
Conducts or assists in the investigation of fire incidents.
Will conduct detailed investigations of fire scenes to determine origin and cause of fires and prepare detailed fire investigation reports.
May be required to prepare and present documentation in a court of law to support fire origin and cause determination.
Will be required to be available to serve as on-call fire investigator a minimum of 12 shifts per month.
May be assigned to, or assist with, special projects as directed.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assists in other department administrative activities as assigned.
In the absence of the Fire Marshal, would assume duties including attending meetings and reviewing planning and zoning petitions.
Instructs classes in assigned subject areas.
Issues burn permits.
Conducts voluntary home inspections.
Responds, when assigned, to major fires and functions as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes, pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
All candidates must:
- Successfully pass an assessment center to include, but not limited to interview panel(s) and a written examination.
- Pass an extensive background check.
- Pass a pre-employment physical examination and psychological examination.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Have a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
