About the role

Occupational Summary

Provides technical support in the development and implementation of energy programs including energy efficiency projects. Serves as principal technical advisor regarding current and emerging power supply/delivery issues including building energy management technologies, internal energy usage policies, and regulatory compliance. Position responsible for the energy management program for all DUHS sites.

 

Work Performed

  • Energy Conservation Measure Development - Identifies building mechanical problems impacting energy consumption; analyzes heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, and lighting systems to determine optimum operating conditions. Develops and recommends equipment strategies to maximize operating efficiency while ensuring patient safety and complying with all applicable codes.
  • Energy Usage & Cost Analysis - Provides analysis on building energy utilities including electricity, gas, fossil fuels, water, sewer and renewable sources. Forecasts and reports on budgets, energy consumption, and conservation. Develops and ensures the regular tracking of appropriate performance measures to support continuous improvement in energy management and conservation. Implement energy monitoring and metering systems at a building level and continuously monitor for unexpected variances that impact utility usage.
  • Strategic Planning - Develops and implements an Energy Management Plan (energy strategies and conservation programs) that includes improvement in (1) equipment and energy technology, and (2) buildings management and occupant practices. Seeks out alternative funding for energy conservation initiatives and manages energy conservation funds. For proposed infrastructure and building envelop projects, works with design teams to provide analytics that compare theoretical calculated savings to post-project actual savings. Calculates expected ROI for projects that have utility savings.
  • Technical Assistance - Reviews plans for building construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects; makes recommendations regarding energy conservation and appropriate technology to ensure efficient energy and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinates Duke Health’s energy initiatives with those of the University to maintain consistency and meet the goals of the organization.
  • Researches and interprets federal, state, and local energy and environmental regulations to ensure compliance with future regulations. Maintains and coordinates a current database to ensure needs and requirements are coordinated with project development.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field. Certified Energy Engineer (CEM) preferred.

Experience: Requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years related experience developing, implementing and monitoring energy management programs. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills: · Knowledge of TJC, CMS, DFS, State and Local Codes, and NFPA standards. Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to prepare and deliver reports and PowerPoint presentations to a variety of audiences. · Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. · Ability to identify and respond to needs proactively and appropriately, without being prompted or directed. · Organizational and time management skills. Needs to successfully manage deliverables and deadlines independently.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in a specific engineering fieldrelated to construction (e.g. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) and eligibility for North Carolina licensure as an Engineer.

 

Experience

 

Work requires a minimum of three years experience in design, planning, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE evaluation and project management related to new construction and renovation of buildings and/or systems.
