Job Summary of the Manager, Technical Accounting and Stock Compensation
The Manager of Technical Accounting and Stock Compensation will be responsible for managing complex technical accounting matters, with a strong focus on stock-based compensation, leases, IBNR, SEC reporting, and compliance with U.S. GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting standards, experience in a public company environment, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced setting. This role directly manages a stock plan administrator.
Requirements of the Manager, Technical Accounting and Stock Compensation
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public company experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, ASC 718 (stock-based compensation), and ASC 842 (lease accounting).
- Experience with equity administration platforms (e.g., eTrade) and financial systems.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and time management skills.
- Biotech or life sciences industry experience preferred.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to bring a problem-solving mindset to any situation.
Responsibilities of the Manager, Technical Accounting and Stock Compensation
The specific duties of the Manager, Technical Accounting and Stock Compensation include but are not limited to:
- Research, interpret, and implement new and existing U.S. GAAP accounting standards.
- Draft technical accounting memos and white papers to support accounting conclusions.
- Partner with external auditors to support quarterly and annual audits.
- Manage the accounting and reporting for all equity-based compensation plans, including RSUs, stock options, ESPP, and performance-based awards.
- Coordinate valuations with external experts as needed.
- Prepare and review lease-related journal entries, reconciliations, and footnote disclosures and ensure compliance with ASC 718.
- Prepare and review equity-related journal entries, reconciliations, and support preparation of footnote disclosures for Forms 10-K and 10-Q, and Form 3, Form 4, and proxy statements.
- Maintain stock plan usage/availability reports and beneficial ownership table.
- Responsible for other technical accounting areas such as leases, claims IBNR and allowance for doubtful accounts.
- Ensure compliance with SOX internal controls related to technical accounting and equity compensation.
- Develop support for budgets and forecasts. Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

- Facilitates process improvements and improves areas of efficiency across the team.
