About the role

This candidate can live anywhere in the West Coast, ideally in: Arizona, California, Washington, Texas or Nevada.

The Retail Store Designer is a key role in the global expansion of JD sports across the US. Reporting into the JD UK Design team and working as part of the JD Sports US Store Development team, this position necessitates a high principle of design standards with the creative ability to develop each store design on a project-by-project basis. Using the agreed store grading guidelines this individual will be responsible for ensuring brand consistency on assigned store design projects delivered in the US. As a member of the team, this role is expected to not only execute directives, but take part in curating strategy and act as a team lead to other team members. This individual should effectively exhibit JD Sports core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following key duties:

  • Leads store design projects taking them from brief through to completion.

  • Participates and/or leads strategy meetings to obtain design briefs and general direction of projects.

  • Liaises with key project stakeholders at varying stages of projects working closely with internal departments, including the Cost, Real Estate, Project Managers, Retail Ops, Merchandising, IT, Security, and Health and Safety.

  • Prepares and coordinates drawing packs in partnership with local architects and engineers for statutory submission approvals.

  • Coordinates meetings to present completed store designs and obtain approval and feedback from teams based in the US head office.

  • Attends site meetings to evaluate designs with the project delivery team.

  • Check surveys and record site information, ensuring all information is up to date in all documentation.

  • Designs drawings in AutoCAD using landlord’s or survey information ensuring all work is accurate.

  • Space plans merchandise layouts using design briefs and commercial option targets.

  • Produces DD sets showing detailed plans, shopfronts, sections and elevations for proposed store designs and site specific details.

  • Partners with external professional agencies such as architects, permit expediters, MEP and structural engineers.

  • Offers assistance and support to all designers as necessary.

  • Handles multiple projects at different stages of design and construction.

  • Partners with the Graphics team on signage and graphics requirements on a project by project basis. 

  • Assists with the on-going development of the JD Store design with a specific focus on North America - West

  • Working knowledge of construction building methods and retail-specific building code is a plus

  • Travel is approximately 25%.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Interior Design or other related major & 3 - 5 years of relevant professional experience working on and delivering a variety of design

projects within the US at all stages of the design process, from conception through  implementation. Experience in construction and shop fitting, along with strong working knowledge of building regulations. Experience in the sports/fashion retail industry preferred. Internal JD Finish Line experience preferred. 

Required Computer and/or Technical Skills

Should have strong proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office or Google Suite. Expert level AutoCAD with working knowledge of how to build dynamic blocks. Proficient in Bluebeam.
