Position Summary:

FCC Environmental Services is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious 2nd Shift Assistant Lead Operator to support daily operations at our state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). This role assists the Lead Operator in overseeing equipment operation, production efficiency, and personnel coordination on the 2nd shift (1:00PM-10:30PM). The ideal candidate has strong leadership qualities, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Operator in coordinating and overseeing daily 2nd shift MRF operations.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot sorting, baling, and conveyor equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Direct and support line workers, equipment operators, and maintenance technicians as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, operating procedures, and production goals.
  • Perform or coordinate minor repairs and adjustments to machinery during the shift.
  • Communicate production issues or downtime events to the Lead Operator or Shift Supervisor.
  • Train and mentor team members in proper operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Complete shift reports, production logs, and equipment checklists accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company policies.
  • Participate in shift handovers and daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Act as the shift lead in the absence of the Lead Operator.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED

Experience and Competencies:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an industrial, recycling, or manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or team lead role preferred.
  • Familiarity with MRF operations, equipment (e.g., balers, conveyors, optical sorters), and safety practices.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
  •  Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends, or holidays as needed.
