Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati is a national leader in co-op, career education, experiential-learning, innovation, and creating what’s “Next.” PD 1015: Next Bearcat Lives Here is a three-credit first-year seminar housed in UC’s College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies. The course is reflective of the university’s commitment to the integration of academic excellence and career preparation, and designed to assist students, primarily in the College of Arts & Sciences, in laying the foundation for what is “Next” as successful students and professionals. This course fulfills the general education first-year and career education touchpoints.
The Assistant Director, First-Year Seminars position coordinates the growing PD 1015 Peer Instructor Program and supports key faculty development initiatives. Peer Educators play an important role in first-year student success. The position provides a critical function in the training and support of Peer Instructors, who collaborate with PD 1015 instructors to facilitate the course, and together, support their students’ progression into and through the University of Cincinnati. The Assistant Director also supports the First-Year Seminar Course Director’s creation and delivery of PD 1015 faculty development initiatives to support student success and career development.
CCPS participates in the University's alternative work program, hybrid work schedule is negotiable.
Essential Functions
Provide coordination and leadership to the PD 1015 Peer Instructor Program (60%)
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, and mentor Peer Instructors who co-facilitate PD 1015: Next Bearcat Lives Here first-year seminar course with a PD 1015 course instructor
- Collaborate with PD 1015 instructors to recruit and hire Peer Instructors for their course sections
- Train, facilitate information sessions, and/or conduct meetings with PD 1015 instructors on strength-based and meaningful ways to integrate their Peer Instructor within their first-year seminar course
- Develop and execute a Peer Instructor training development plan, including pre-semester training and ongoing professional development
- Instruct a peer education course, COOP 3031: On Campus Co-op Peer Education Experience or similar class, Peer Instructors take alongside their position
- Curate lesson plans, learning activities, and other instructional resources Peer Instructors may utilize in the course
- Create, execute, and deliver programmatic evaluations and assessments on the effectiveness and quality of the Peer Instructor program
