Job Description

Team Summary

Visas’ Government Engagement (GE) organization aims to create broad alignment between Visa’s business objectives and public policies that affect the payments industry. Our U.S. Government Engagement (USGE) team is headquartered in Washington D.C. with colleagues in California and Colorado. We engage with a wide range of policy makers and stakeholders to advocate, educate, and provide thought leadership as it relates to Visa’s policy interests to expand access and usage of digital payments around the world

Our team also works closely with colleagues across the company including Inclusive Impact and Sustainability, Communications, Marketing, Finance, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Account Executives, Global Policy, Product, Business Solutions, and Visa Consulting & Analytics.

What a Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations does at Visa:

Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Head of U.S. Government Engagement Strategic Initiatives & Operations, this position will have an active role in USGE strategy implementation, planning, business operations, and driving alignment across the team. This individual will help implement a multi-year strategy and ensure effective execution of those plans by tracking and monitoring our success. In addition, this leader will work with the other region leads to set clear goals and help produce positive outcomes for the business. Together, the team will ensure that GE continues to maintain its high standard of support for addressing regulatory and policy challenges and enabling business opportunities in the U.S. 

Essential Functions

  • Partner closely with U.S. Government Engagement leadership to ensure smooth operations at all levels.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between the U.S. team and cross-functional business partners. 
  • Lead and manage USGE intern program as well as employees joining USGE under rotational development programs such as Visa Emerging Leaders (VEL).  This includes interviewing, hiring recommendations, program development, and day-to-day supervision.
  • Support the implementation of a multi-year strategic plan as well drive collective accountability against related OKRs.
  • Break down silos within the team, implementing solutions to enhance information sharing with an end-user experience mindset.
  • Create thoughtful, executive-quality briefing materials, presentations, and correspondence for Visa leader visits, meetings with policy makers, and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Produce and manage executive level reporting, and content, ensuring best practices enhancing the user experience
  • Lead and collaborate on event planning and execution for internal and external audiences, partnering with colleagues and stakeholders for large- and small-scale events.
  • Continuously review and enhance GE tools and processes. Share and apply standard methodologies, maximizing performance, and elevating productivity across the team.
  • Play an active role in key operational activities such as the Annual Operating Planning (AOP), internal audits, compliance, and regulatory related processes.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification

• 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications

• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
