The Senior Certification Engineer acts as an interface with the FAA and other certifying authorities in matters regarding type certification and validation of Cirrus Design aircraft and equipment installations. The Senior Certification Engineer shall have knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 requirements, associated means of compliance, and certification procedures, as well as an understanding of international regulations and validation procedures. The Senior Certification Engineer coordinates all certification activities to assure a timely progression occurs from project planning through type certification approval.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Act as the coordinator of various Cirrus Design certification and validation activities including internal coordination with project management, engineering technical specialists, quality assurance, and international sales representatives, and external coordination with suppliers, industry, FAA and international CAA.
- Lead certification and validation meetings including type boards and technical reviews and ensure proper preparation and participation is accomplished.
- Coordinate the development of Certification Plans, Compliance Checklists, Test Plans, Test Reports, Analysis Reports, Drawing Lists and other documents required to certify Cirrus Design airplanes and installed equipment.
- Act as the custodian of documents used for certification and validation of airplanes and equipment. The certification engineer tracks the completion of all documents, initiates and tracks written correspondence with the ACO or international CAA including formal responses to issue papers and CRI.
- Accomplish FAA and international CAA submittals of all documents required to certify and validate Cirrus Design airplanes and installed equipment. Approvals of said data shall be tracked and logged.
- Create Certification Reports to ensure project knowledge is captured at the conclusion of each project.
- Participate in internal design and project reviews where certification issues will be discussed.
- Provide regulatory guidance, training and leadership to engineering and quality personnel.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in engineering, engineering technology, or engineering management.
- Preferred 6 years of experience in regulatory compliance
- Minimum 6 years of experience in an aircraft or automotive engineering design environment
- Experience in personnel/project planning, scheduling and coordination
Demonstrated Proficiencies/Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
- Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 21 and 23 regulation and associated policy
- Software skills: MS Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint
- Able and willing to travel as needed to accomplish tasks
