Job Summary
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer - Welding will provide technical expertise at a local project level for operational and development Programs to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills. Accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
Job Responsibilities
• Weld Process Optimization (EBW & TIG)
o Develop and optimize weld process parameters for electron beam welding and TIG welding to ensure high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective welding operations.
o Conduct thorough analysis and testing of weld processes to enhance productivity and quality.
o Program and troubleshoot electron beam welding equipment to meet specific customer requirements.
o Apply expertise in TIG welding to improve welding techniques, efficiency, and overall performance.
o Work closely with production teams to implement TIG welding processes and address any issues that may arise.
• Weld Program Management:
o Set up and maintain welding programs and weld schedules for different projects.
o Ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications in all welding processes.
• Quality Assurance:
o Implement and maintain quality control measures to meet or exceed industry standards and customer requirements.
o Collaborate with quality assurance teams to conduct inspections and address any non-conformities.
• Continuous Improvement
o Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in welding processes and equipment.
o Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the efficiency of welding operations
• Breaks down technical problems, risk, opportunities, in the correct order to create products and add value to GKN Aerospace through creating Zero Defects
• Leads positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers
• Provide local project technical oversight for the development of manufacturing process solutions to complex problems through:
• Local project technical lead for the implementation of production planning, from original concept through to production. Design these processes to a high level of process capability through utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite.
• Implement the global process for product development, first article development, configuration changes, build process definition and implementation.
Job Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science or a related field or 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering lieu of degree.
• 5+ Years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
• Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• GKN experience
• Aeropspace industry experience
• Experience in an MRO organization is strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of quality system models such as ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000
• Increasingly able to provide Technical input at all levels of work
• Identifies and anticipates technical problems and offers solutions
• Drives to complete the job on time and continually searches for better ways of doing things
• Understands situations by analysing them logically and uses information in a systematic way identifying appropriate course of action for resolution.
• Ability to apply complex and non-routine analysis
• Competent member of the technical community with a good understanding of other disciplines
• Acts without supervision in own area whilst able to supervise others.
• Applies knowledge and skills to a range of activities
• Understands the formal and informal structure of the business
• Provides support to the technical community and show commercial awareness at local level
