Responsibilities

The Clinical Research Analyst is responsible for performing feasibility analysis on incoming research studies to ensure adherence to good clinical practice guidelines, state and federal regulations, and institutional policies and procedures related to research activity. A feasibility analysis takes all of a research proposal's relevant factors into account (e.g., research billing, compliance/privacy, technical knowledge of EMR, data management, legal), along with clinical operational considerations to ascertain the likelihood of completing the research project or clinical trial successfully. Feasibility analysis of a study can be a comprehensive strategy designed to prevent, discover, or defend against corporate misconduct and can determine how a business will operate. This analysis will provide critical information of any potential problems that may arise so we may mitigate risk.  Demonstrates a strong understanding of clinical operations, data management, privacy, and compliance standards for research. Assists the department in meeting regulatory requirements, quality metrics through functions such as data aggregation, analysis, and report generation for research; electronic and paper file management; performance improvement tracking and reporting of outcomes; benchmarking research and associated activities; coordination of special projects; and facilitation and development of research report requesting by PIs and study teams.

The role is not about conducting a single research project; it is about facilitating research for others across the organization.

  • Data Intake & Guidance: Reviewing protocols and meeting with study teams to define data needs.
  • Consultative Coaching: Guiding researchers who may not understand certain data (like free text in Epic) is difficult to pull. Helping them define patient populations and measurable data points.
  • Liaison Work: Coordinating with Revenue Cycle (Chargemasters), IS (Epic builds), and Central Services.
  • Technical Execution: Extracting data from EMR systems and performing statistical analysis.
