University Settlement partners with 40,000 New Yorkers on the Lower East Side and in Brooklyn every year to build on their strengths as they achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For over 135 years, we’ve collaborated with our neighbors to pioneer highly effective programs that fight poverty and systemic inequality. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, engaging with every individual holistically, and creating space for people to organize. Joining together with our neighbors to advocate for justice and equality, we help build community strength.

We work with New Yorkers of all ages. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development.

The Performance Project @ University Settlement is a home for the next generation of community artists.  The program connects young local artists and emerging professional artists to supportive environments where they can grow their practices, build relationships, and publicly present new work.   TPP provides comprehensive and complementary opportunities to artis and community members through the  ICAC, Artist-in-Residency for Professional Artists, The Performance Project Fellowship for Emerging Artists (ages 18 and older), and our Performance Intensive for Young Artists (ages 14-18). We also offer dynamic guest artists an affordable and supportive opportunity to self-produce their work.  In addition, the program curates community art events and facilitates the integration of the arts into US programs and initiatives.  

Responsibilities:

• Oversee, develop, and implement the program’s daily work and growth.  Build a creative and responsive team to design and promote community programs and events aimed at TPP’s core areas of work.
• Provide administrative leadership for the hiring, supervision, scheduling, team building, professional development, coaching and evaluation of staff and consultants. Close collaboration with the Development Office on program development and grant writing.
• Budget oversight, ongoing collaboration with the fiscal department, and administrative and other budgetary decision making to maintain the program’s fiscal viability.
• Development and nurturing of collaborations and linkages to other Settlement programs, as well as community partners.

• Design and implement professional development for AIR program.. 
• Co-design Group Performance Intensive with Program Director.
• Implement and co-facilitate sessions with other teaching artists. 
• Design and implement an evaluation and assessment plan for all programming. 

• Offer strategic support on recruitment for all artists cohorts.
• Offer strategic support on patron development efforts marketing and social media materials, website content and performance programs. 
• Complete other relevant duties as required by program 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's required or Master’s degree preferred. 
• Background, experience, and knowledge of the arts essential. 
• Minimum of 5 years of facilitation/teaching experience.
